select texts from ezekielEzekiel is one of the Judean exiles deported along with King Jehoiachin to Babylon in 597 BC. Five years into the exile, in the year when Ezekiel would have begun his duties as a priest at the age of thirty, God called him to be a prophet. And what a prophet he was! Ezekiel’s extensive use of symbolic actions, angelic intermediaries, numerology, and vivid visions make him one of Israel’s greatest spokesmen.
Through it all, Ezekiel describes the death of one world and the rise of a new one. Ezekiel 1–33 depicts Israel’s exile and demise but beginning in Ezekiel 34 the prophet announces the Gospel.
